A KR Squared Musing

You know that feeling when everything is moving at lightning speed? The inbox is overflowing, deadlines are stacked like Jenga blocks, and you’re running purely on determination? That’s been us lately. Business has been busy (which we’re so grateful for), but here’s the thing: when you move too fast, even the best teams can miss a detail.

Case in point: something recently slipped through the cracks here at KR Squared. Nothing catastrophic, but it was one of those “how did we miss that?” moments. And honestly, it wasn’t because we didn’t care or weren’t paying attention, it’s because we were moving too quickly.

It got us thinking. How often do we all do this? Rush through something like an email, a conversation, a family decision just to keep up with the pace of it all?

As they say, “stop and smell the roses.” Turns out, there’s science behind that advice. Research from the University of California, Santa Barbara, found that our brains can only maintain intense focus for about 50 minutes before accuracy and creativity start to dip. Another study from Microsoft found that human attention spans have dropped to just 8.25 seconds, yes I know, that’s shorter than a goldfish’s (yikes). When we operate in constant go-mode, we’re more likely to make mistakes and overlook opportunities for creative thinking.

But here’s the thing, slowing down doesn’t mean losing momentum. It means regaining perspective. When you take a pause, you catch things you might have missed, connect dots that weren’t visible before, and make room for better ideas and decisions. When you stop rushing from one thing to the next, you actually start to experience the things you’ve been working so hard for.

So, yes, we missed an approval. But we also got a reminder: breathe, slow down, and take it all in. Because sometimes the fastest way forward is to pause.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to pour another cup of coffee… slowly. ☕😉
